上課時間表


1. Grammar & Syntax
Students will learn about grammatical structures and how to employ them accordingly. They will receive intensive instruction on the following topics:
Nouns, noun phrases, noun clauses, adjectives, adjective phrases, adverbs, adverb phrases, adverb clauses, gerunds, infinitives, participles, finite verbs, non-finite verbs, modal verbs, transitive verbs, intransitive verbs, ditransitive verbs, active/passive voice, tenses, articles, conjunctions, prepositions, inversion, apposition, predicates, prepositional phrases, conditional sentences, the subjunctive mood, subject complements, object complements, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, dangling modifiers, etc.

2. Vocabulary Morphology

  1. Students will grow to be sophisticated writers by learning idioms, proverbs, and difficult vocabulary.
  2. Students will study the morphemes of English – prefixes, suffixes, roots, synonyms, antonyms, homonyms etc. – and the way in which they are joined togther to make words.

3. Reading Techniques
Students wil practice such skills as skimming, scanning, and intensive reading

4. Summarizing
Students will learn how to extract the central idea(s) of a passage.

5. Essay Writing Techniques
Students will acquire acknowledge on, and be given ample opportunity to practise how to write cohesive, convincing, and sophisticated essays. The following are some of the skills they will gain :

  1. Students will learn how to construct different types of essays : persuasive, descriptive, narrative, research etc.
  2. Students will learn how to write thesis statements and topic sentences.
  3. Students will learn how to write opening, body, and concluding paragraphs.
  4. Students will learn certain techniques which will aid them in writing well-developed essays. The following topics will be discussed: definition, classification, cause and effect, comparison and contrast, supporting details, illustrations and examples, analogy etc.

6. Literature (Poetry and Prose)

  1. Students will learn literary terms and techniques, particularly those tested on the provincial exam.
  2. Students will learn how to write paragraphs and essays on literature.
  3. Students will learn techniques on how to tackle questions (multiple choice and essay) specifically pertaining to the provincial exam. These techniques are derived from extensive study of the most recent provincial exams.
